What are the potential consequences of a drunk driving arrest?

Many people in Colorado have never been stopped by the police on suspicion of drunk driving. However, it does happen regularly. Sometimes police have extra patrols out during holidays when drinking is common, such as this past St. Patrick's Day, the Fourth of July or New Year's Eve. Or police may be parked on the side of the road, looking out for motorists driving erratically. Or police may have pulled a person over for a different offense, such as speeding, and noticed alcohol in the vehicle. No matter what the circumstances are, it is good to have some idea of what to expect at a DUI stop.

How do ignition interlock devices work in Colorado?

One of the penalties that may follow a drunk driving conviction or a breath test refusal in Colorado is the requirement that the driver have an ignition interlock device installed on his or her vehicle. In general, what does such a device do, and what happens in the case of noncompliance?

Colorado woman accused of vehicular homicide after fatal accident

A motor vehicle accident in Colorado that led to the deaths of two motorcyclists and that injured a third has led to criminal charges for the driver involved. According to police, the accident began when a woman, age 27, was heading due south on Highway 83. For reasons not reported on, her vehicle apparently crossed over into the opposite lane of traffic, colliding with a motorcycle.
